03.Kayak-tour at Barra Grande (Brazil)

Starting from Barra Grande we will paddle into the bay of Camamu and discover the surrounding mangrove forests. In our kayaks we can experience the beautiful natural environment at its best. The bay of Camamu is covered by mangroves, which gives it an important ecological importance. Just a few years ago, the importance of those type of areas was not recognized and disparagingly classified as muddy area. Nowadays they are known as the most important and most diverse ecosystems. This special type of plant is absolutely worth seeing and we will also learn more about its life cycle.
While we make our way through the mangrove trees on tiny water ways we can discover fishes, birds, caimans, different type of crabs and river dolphins (Botos). On our journey we will also visit local fisher villages and enjoy a delicious lunch, which will be served on an island within the bay before we are slowly heading back on a different way to Barra Grande.

Barra Grande is a small fisher village on the outermost point of the peninsula de Maraú with about 1800 inhabitants. The village is nearly free of cars and the streets on the peninsula are not paved… Pure off-road fun! A small ship jetty decorates the village where some of the fisher boats and excursion boats land. Along the beach you will find countless beach bars which serve cold beers and fresh seafood accompanied by reggae and samba rhythms. The sound of Brazilian rhythms will also follow you around the village with its many restaurants, bars, and discotheques – this is pure zest for life !
